quizhelper-small.gifManaging Students (a guide to placing students within your classroom, creating their accounts, and distributing their passwords)

This tutorial will explain all of the elements available on MyTeacherHelper.com for the management of your students.

Before you start adding students to your classes, you will have to complete your profile.  This is required because some of the fields that you have in your profile (i.e. Institution) will also carry over to the student accounts when they are generated.  Please take a few minutes to complete your profile.

NOTE: After completing your profile the first time, you will need to logout of MyTeacherHelper.com and log back in again before you attempt enrolling the students.  The information that is needed to create the student accounts is set-up from your profile when you log in.

Now you are ready to manage/enroll your students. To enroll a student,

  1. Click on Classroom Helper

  2. Click “list/mod pw/enroll” for the class you want to enroll the student into

  3. Click on “Add/enroll student(s)”

When building your classes, you can add students the following ways:

Add existing MyTeacherHelp.com student – use this if you know the students username.  This is so a student does not have multiple accounts on MyTeacherHelper.com.  They can have one account and registered for several classes with multiple teachers.

Browse student accounts by institution – use this to look at all of the exiting student accounts within your district or building.  This is very useful if another teacher has already started using MyTeacherHelper.com, you can just select the existing student accounts and add them into your class.

Manually (one student at a time) – great for a new student after you have created you classes.  This will just add a single user account and then register them into your class.

Upload a roster – HUGE TIME SAVER!!!  This allows you to upload a .CSV (comma-separated values) file into your class. To create your CSV file, you can use any spreadsheet program (MS Excel) that saves files as a CSV file.  To do this:Create a new Spreadsheet

  1. In the first row enter the following (as headings):

  2. Enter last name into column A

  3. Enter first name into column B

  4. Enter password into column C

  5. Enter student id (Optional) into column D

  6. Enter this information for all of your students for this class using a separate row for each student.

  7. Save the file as a .CSV file [In Excel: File -> Save As -> Save as Type -> CSV (Comma Delimited)]

Then upload this file using the last option of the enroll student page.

Passing out student account information

We have created a report on the Class listing page called “Username/Password Report (Cut up and distribute to students)”.  We suggest that you print out this report, cut up the username/pw separately for each student, and then pass them out to the students.   Although this is a nice feature to get them started, we have found that the student will ask you again several times for their username and password.  You can also come back to this report to look them up or you click on the “View PW” button next to each student’s name.
